The East Side BID issued a call for artists over the summer and a panel of seven jurists chose Ruben Alcantar out of an applicant pool of over 100 artists to paint a new mural in Black Cat Alley. Ruben completed his mural, titled “Head in the Clouds,” in September 2023.
Ruben Alcantar
Ruben Alcantar is a Milwaukee artist who has created murals around the city to inspire art and change. His work includes the 30-by-15 foot “Respect” mural, which features Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers, located on Kinnickinnic Ave., as well as several other Black Lives Matter murals around Milwaukee.
In addition to creating murals, Ruben is also a tattoo artist at Black Rabbit Tattoo Collective.
