Define Thriving

“Define Thriving” | Sid Ylagan

Milwaukee, Wi

Created in the summer of 2021

“Must ‘thriving’ include Self-care moments & Girlbossing? Is ‘thriving’ feeling like you’ve been given permission to freely *exist*, to decorate without hesitation, to fearlessly take up space, to just *be* ? (tbd!)”
- Sid Ylagan

New to Milwaukee’s public art scene, artist/designer Sid Ylagan was selected for Black Cat Alley’s largest wall of 2021. This four-figure portrait showcases Ylagan’s traditional painting background combined with some serious spraypaint exploration.

Ylagan frequently illustrates a sometimes subtle, but mostly bold, feminine energy. “Define Thriving” features four individual femme figures exploring their sense of self through movement and fashion.

Milwaukee-based illustrator Sid Ylagan is a designer by day, illustrator by night, and fine artist by weekends. Ylagan works in a wide range of illustration styles, but primarily focuses on elevated portraiture in her personal work. She draws inspiration from fashion, pop-culture icons, & loved ones.

Ylagan graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2019. Since then, she’s been designing apparel graphics and patterns full-time.  As 2020 wrapped, Ylagan returned to her traditional portrait painting roots - this time at a larger scale. Like way larger.

She stepped into the public art scene with two murals at Bayshore Mall, immediately followed by her portraits in Black Cat Alley. (Stay tuned!)
